The Arms Race was a race to build up stockpiles of nuclear weapons between the U.S and the U.S.S.R. The world’s first nuclear bomb’s code name was the Manhattan project. The two major cities in Japan where the atomic bomb was used where Hiroshima and Nagasaki dropped by the U.S. The Soviet’s first tested their own atomic bomb in 1949. The United States developed and tested the H-bomb in 1952, the H-bomb was much smaller than the A-bomb but 2500 more powerful. Russia tested their own H-bomb in 1953. An ICBM is an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile the ICBM was used or long range nuclear targets. The Soviet Union was the country to first developed and test the ICBM. The Atlas was the first ICBM developed by the United States in 1957. It was developed for the Air force and was operational on October 1959. The Minuteman missile is a land-based missile that was also developed for the Air force. The Minuteman missile is still active and will stay active until 2030. The United states has the most active nuclear weapons at 2,150 but in total they have 7,700 active and non-active bombs. Russia has 1,750 active nuclear weapons and 8,500 total nuclear weapons.

Korean War
Korea was divided North of the 38th parallel line. Korea was divided along this parallel because north of the line Japanese surrendered to Soviet forces and south of the line the Japanese surrendered to American troops. North Korea was Communist industrial and non-Communist rural was South Korea. On June 25, 1950 North Korea made a surprise attack on the South. The Soviet Union supported the North Koreans by sending them tanks, airplanes and money. The South Koreans were aided by the United Nations the U.N sent a international force of 15 nations. By September of 1950 the North Koreans pushed all they way to the far south except for a tiny area near Pusan in the far Southeast. The tide of the war changed when MacArthur launched a surprise attack moving half of the North Koreans surrendered the rest retreated. The U.N troops pushed the North Koreans almost to the Yalu River at the Chinese border. China felt threatened by the U.N troops and the fleet of American fleet of their coast. In October 1950, the Chinese sent 300,000 troops into North Korea.
